Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi will have his wages paid
three months in advance ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
NFF Executive committee member Emeka Inyama told
KickOffNigeria.com that the move was to avoid any distractions in the build-up
to, and during the tournament.
Inyama said the NFF had moved to clear the coach's wage
arrears, but wanted to do even better.
"We have started the process of paying Keshi and his
coaches their salaries until June and they will get those payments before the
end of this month," Inyama told KickOffNigeria.com on Wednesday.
"We don't want any distractions before the World
Cup.
"Nobody wants to owe their employees, but sometimes
there are circumstances beyond anybody's control.
"After all, we also paid him three months in advance
before the team went to South Africa for the Nations Cup and we didn't make any
noise about it."
Inyama insisted that the NFF was focused on providing the
best possible logistical support for the Super Eagles as they head to Brazil.
"As a federation we know what we have to do. Which
is why unlike before, there has been no talk about preparations, hotels, or any
of those other issues that used to distract us in the past.
"Once we sort out this salary issue, we hope that
everyone can stop dwelling on irrelevant things and focus on the most important
thing, which is supporting this team to do well at the World Cup."
