The late departure of Glo Nigeria Premier League side
Crown FC from Lafia, Nasarawa state back to their base in Ogbomosho on Monday
turned out to be a blessing in disguise as they escaped the bomb blast that
rocked the Nyanya area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Crown FC contingent had planned an earlier departure
from Lafia after playing their Week 6 Premier League fixture but ended up
leaving later than expected only to hear that their route was hit by a bomb.
Over 85 people in and around the explosion area were said
to have lost their lives with several other suffering varying degree of injuries.
“We are quite grateful to God that we have not reached
the place when the sad event occurred, we don’t know what could have happened
to us,” a Crown FC official Fatai Olayinka remarked.
After losing their match narrowly by a lone goal to
Nasarawa United on Sunday, Crown FC goalkeeper was also involved a serious
injury.
It is yet to be seen if Crown FC goalkeeper Michael Uweru
will be good condition to be in between the sticks when Crown FC play their
next game against Kaduna United having returned home with sticks after the 1-0
loss to Nasarawa United.
