Ikechukwu Uche is excited to be available for selection
for Villarreal this weekend after the Spanish football authorities rescinded the
second yellow card that led to his sending-off against Real Betis last weekend.
The 30-year-old was sent off after being cautioned for
the second time in the game following a tackle on an opponent in which he won
the ball.
Uche will however be available for selection when
Villarreal face Granada this weekend the Competitions Committee rescinded the
red card issued to the player during their weekly review of incidents. The
Competitions Committee decided that referee Iglesias Villanueva made the wrong
call with that second booking and as such, and as a result the decision has
been rescinded on appeal.
"It’s good news that they've removed the yellow
card, because at the time of the incident, it was already obvious that it
wasn't a foul, but I’m delighted they've seen sense," Uche said on
Wednesday.
"The main thing is that I can now play, as I felt
absolutely helpless after being sent-off for that, as well as the prospect of
missing the next game."
Uche believes that his sending off had a negative effort
on the overall performance of his team in the game as they went on to draw 1-1
at home with Real Betis.
"I was doing well, the team was doing well and
because of that dismissal, it complicated everything for us," Uche said.
