Osasuna hasn't fared well on trips to the Camp Nou in recent
years. The team from the Navarre region of Spain has left Barcelona with a
hiding each time, leaking a total of 20 goals in only three games.
The biggest drubbing came in the 2011-12 season, when
Barcelona pulled off a resounding 8-0 victory, including a hat-trick from
Messi. The following season the scoreline was 5-0, with Messi picking up four
of the five goals. Sunday's 7-0 result included another hat-trick for the
Argentine ace.
The player who has suffered the most at the hands of the
'Azulgranas' is Andrés Fernández, who was the Osasuna goalie for all three
games.
Oriol Riera had a bittersweet experience. Although his
side got a thumping on the pitch, he also got an ovation from the Camp Nou on
his return to the place that saw him take his first strides in the footballing
world: "After so many years and so many changes, that was compensation for
all that work. It was a special day and seeing my daughter in the stands was a
great experience despite the result".
The striker was disappointed with his side's demolition.
"It would have been better to play Barça if they played how they did a few
weeks ago. We've ended up paying for their previous poor results" said the
striker, as he alluded to Barcelona's slip-up against Valladolid.
Despite events on the night, Riera was convinced that the
result wouldn't affect his team in coming games: "We know what we have to
do. We have a lot of belief in ourselves and we need to keep going along the
path we're on".
