An Executive Committee member of the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF), Sanusi Mohammed, has stated that he is confident Nigeria will
have a good outing at the on-going African Nations Championship as the Rainbow
Nation is a natural hunting ground for the Super Eagles.
Mohammed, who is the Federation's Director of
Competitions, noted that the odds seem to favour Nigeria as history has proved
that Nigeria usually do well in competitions hosted by South Africa, citing
last year's Nation's Cup win as an instance.
"We have a psychological advantage because anytime
we go to South Africa for a competition, we end up as champions, we normally
win tournaments hosted by South Africa, the latest of which was the African
Nations Cup in 2013," Mohammed told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He added that aside from the psychological advantage of
playing in South Africa, the players' ability to rise to the occasion when
called upon is also a key ingredient that will guarantee Nigeria a successful
outing.
Mohammed went ahead to commend the players for Sunday's
3-1 victory over Bafana Bafana, stating that they have surpassed the
expectations of many Nigerians who didn't expect them to overcome the hosts and
book a place in the next round, having commenced their campaign in unconvincing
fashion.
