British rider Sam Sunderland put his previous Dakar Rally
troubles behind him to claim victory on stage two of this year's event in
Argentina.
The 23-year-old Honda rider withdrew three days into the
2012 event and fractured both his wrists shortly before last year's edition but
was a clear winner on Monday, finishing 39 seconds clear of Chile's Francisco
Lopez Contardo on his KTM.
Spain's Joan Barreda Bort was third on his Honda and
holds a lead of 2 minutes 3 seconds ahead of Lopez in the overall bike
standings. Sunderland currently lies third overall, 2:33 behind Barreda.
In the car classification, two-time defending champion
Stephane Peterhansel picked up a 62nd stage as the race moved from San Luis to San
Rafael.
The Frenchman (Mini) finished 46 seconds clear of former
World Rally Championship star Carlos Sainz (SMG) to establish a 28-second
overall lead over the Spaniard.
