Arsenal FC to meet Mirko Vucinic’s agent as talks of his
transfer to the Emirates heats up, Arsene Wenger though has denied all these
reports.
525px-MirkoVucinic [c] wikicommonsArsenal have been
linked with a lot of strikers in this window as reports suggest that Arsene
Wenger is keen to add more depth upfront. Olivier Giroud has had to shoulder
most of the responsibility upfront, and now with Walcott ruled out for the rest
of the season along with fitness concerns for Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo, the
Gunners will have to add another forward in this window to sustain their title
challenge.
Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic is one of the names which
has been linked with a move to the Emirates in this window. The Montenegrin
striker has been an important part of the Juventus squad since joining them in
2011 from AS Roma and was been a regular starter in the side in the last two
title winning campaign. But this season after the arrival of Tevez and
Llorente, the 30-year-old’s role in the side has been abbreviated to a great
extent.
Vucinic has made only four starts in the league this
season and reports suggest that he is looking to leave Turin in search of
regular first team action. Arsenal are interested in signing the striker on
loan till the end of the season as Arsene Wenger sees him as a short term
solution and an able back-up for Giroud, but Juventus are reportedly interested
in agreeing a permanent deal only. The Italian club wants £8.2 million for the
former Roma striker as they look to invest that on PSG’s Jeremy Menez.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Arsenal are set to meet
with Vucinic’s agent at London tomorrow in order to discuss details of this
move, while the club’s negotiator Dick Law has already held talks with
Juventus. Vucinic will bring a lot of experience with his arrival, but he has
never been a prolific goal scorer during his career. Like Giroud, he works
hard, is good in hold-up play and can drop deep to help in building up attack.
But his statistics of just 21 goals in his last 71 league matches for Juventus
tells a story of its own.
Arsene Wenger though has denied this reports linking
Vucinic to the London club, although his denial of any transfer rumour is
supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt.
“We are looking at potential possibilities for us to get
someone in, but we are not especially in for Vucinic,” he said.
“Some people have visual capacities that I don’t have.
“We are not on any special case.
“I would love to announce something that would excite you
and me, but I don’t have the possibility to do it.” – The Arsenal manager said.
