Antonio Conte admitted he was happy with Juventus’
performance against Roma, despite the 1-0 loss.
The Giallorossi knocked the Bianconeri out of the Coppa
Italia and booked themselves a place in the semi-final thanks to Gervinho’s
lone goal.
Speaking to Rai Sport, Conte has said that he is happy
with his side’s performance and said that his side conceded the goal at a time
when they were ‘destined’ to control the game.
“The game was very balanced,” he said. “Roma scored at a
time when we were destined to control the game.
“I’m very happy with my players’ performance.
“The game plan was to defend when off the ball and try to
score when on it”.
Conte also questioned some decisions taken by referee
Paolo Tagliavento and his linesmen especially the apparent last-man tackle by
Mehdi Benatia on Sebastian Giovinco and Federico Peluso’s disallowed goal.
“Foul on Giovinco?,” he said. “I think it’s a last man
foul.
“However, I don’t want to blame the referee.
“Peluso’s goal, however, seems to be wrongly disallowed,
I think it was inside not outside”. (Referring to the initial cross).
Conte also said the Coppa exit is not as bad as it seems,
as the Europa League needs “22 fit players”.
“In my view, the Europa League needs 22 fit players,” he
said.
Lastly, Conte said that it is always good to make changes
in the Coppa Italia, while refusing to speak about the Fredy Guarin situation.
“All competitions are important,” he said. “However, I
like to make changes in the Coppa Italia.
” If [Giorgio] Chiellini hadn’t got suspended on
Saturday, I still would’ve rested him.
“Guarin? I don’t discuss the transfer market”.
