Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti feels Italy are not the
best side competing at the World Cup and also feels AC Milan striker Mario
Balotelli is too inconsistent.
The former Juventus and AC Milan coach feels Italy are
among the favourites for the World Cup in Brazil but are not in the group of
favourites for the tournament.
“If we’re talking about the World Cup, I see Italy behind
Spain, Brazil, Germany, and Argentina,” he told Spanish radio station Radio
Nacional de Espana.
“[Italy coach] Prandelli is trying to rejuvenate the team
with youth, but the strength of the squad lies in the experience in midfield
with Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi, and Thiago Motta”.
During the interview Ancelotti also laid heavy criticism
on Milan forward Mario Balotelli.
“The problem, in my opinion, is that there are not top
players in attack,” Ancelotti said.
“Mario has talent, but he is simply too inconsistent.
In addition, the former Milan coach weighed in on the
possibility of eventually coaching the Azzurri.
“I might consider coaching the national team in the
future, but not right now. Currently I am enjoying working on the training
ground every day”.
