“I’m the kind of player that doesn’t like sitting in the
bench, not at this level of my career because I know I've worked very hard,”
the defender says.
“I’m a fighter, I like giving everything and I like to
compete. So where I don’t have that competitiveness in me, I cannot be at that
place.”
The 32-year-old has been linked with a move away to
Cardiff City from Fenerbahce, the club he joined for £2.5-million from Everton
two years ago.
“I’ve heard a lot of speculation about my future and it’s
been ongoing. Really, there is no difference. I don’t know what is going on.
“We were not in the Champions League before and two weeks
ago we were back in and I have already played my first game. I started my first
game and we drew 1-1.
“The speculation will go on because Fenerbahce have not
yet confirmed if it is guaranteed that we will definitely remain in the
Champions League. If that doesn’t happen then obviously some foreign players
will have to leave.”
Fenerbahce now have 12 foreign players on their books,
with Turkish League rules restricting the number of foreign players on the
pitch at any one time to six places.
