Arsène Wenger insists he will endeavour to add new
signings to his Arsenal squad before their Champions League qualifier this
month.
The Gunners have so far only signed France Under-21
international Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre in the summer
transfer window.
Wenger was previously linked with Gonzalo Higuaín before
the Argentine joined Napoli, while Arsenal have offered a reported £40,000,001
for want-away Liverpool striker Luis Suárez.
The 63-year-old is confident that he has enough quality
in his current squad to reach the Champions League group stage, but the Gunners
manager still hopes to make one or two additions if possible.
“Let’s count first on what’s here, if we can add
something, we will do,” Wenger told a news conference following Arsenal’s 2-1
loss to Galatasaray in the Emirates Cup.
“It’s very difficult to predict that it will all be
sorted out before we play [the] Champions League qualifier.
“I think we have enough quality to achieve qualification
with the players that we have at the moment.
“If we have more, even better.”
Meanwhile, Wenger confirmed Ivory Coast international
Gervinho is nearing a permanent move to Serie A outfit Roma, with the striker
flying out to Italy on Sunday.
The Arsenal boss also revealed that Marouane Chamakh is
set to join newly-promoted Crystal
Palace after the Moroccan spent last season on loan at
West Ham United.
“Gervinho is on a good way to Roma, and Chamakh on good
way to Crystal Palace,” Wenger added.
