Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted new signing Loic
Remy could miss the first month of the new season.
Remy, who joined Newcastle on a season-long loan from
Queens Park Rangers earlier this summer, has not been able to take a full part
in training due to a calf injury.
The Frenchman will miss next Monday's opener at
Manchester City and Pardew expects him to be ruled out for the clashes with
West Ham and Fulham.
Pardew is refusing to take any risks with Remy's fitness
even though it only leaves him with Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi as his fit
recognised strikers.
"Remy is still on the road to recovery," said
Pardew. "Man City will come too soon, and so might West Ham and Fulham.
"It's becoming increasingly likely he will be
unavailable - he's not kicked a ball yet, and only been running.
"It's very important that we make sure he's
right."
