José Mourinho insists he not is risking tainting his
Chelsea legacy by returning to Stamford Bridge.
The 50-year-old Portuguese coach sealed a return to west
London back in June after leaving Real Madrid and agreeing a four-year contract
with the Blues.
Mourinho led Chelsea to six trophies during his first
spell at the club between 2004 and 2007, before going on to coach Inter Milan
and Madrid.
But as his side gear up for their Premier League season
opener against Hull City this weekend, Mourinho is not concerned about whether
his past achievements at the club could be affected by his second reign.
“No I don’t think I’m risking my legacy here,” Mourinho
told the Sun. “What you did, you did. No one can delete it, no one can take
away my history at Chelsea.
“And I know the Chelsea mentality. They will never forget
what I did before. They will never forget that I gave everything to this club.
“I want to be seen as a new manager of Chelsea, I want to
be analysed for what I do now. I want to work here and be loved for what I do
now.
“My career is very rich. I have won lots of things in
different places. Every competition I wanted to win, I did it.
“So I don’t feel that pressure that a manager without a
big CV would feel. The only pressure I feel is the pressure of fighting for my
own club. Because being the manager of Chelsea means more than being the
manager of any other club.
“Not because of what I did, not because of the pressure
to succeed again. But because I always want Chelsea to win – even in the last
five years with 10 different managers.
“Now I’m here, I can do something I couldn’t do for the
last five years – help Chelsea win. That’s the only pressure I feel.”
