Barcelona will approach Manchester City for their
captain, Vincent Kompany, if they are frustrated in their attempts to sign
either Daniel Agger from Liverpool or Chelsea’s David Luiz, ESPN has reported.
The Catalans are particularly keen on Brazil international
Luiz, and are of the belief that new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has his doubts
regarding the centre-back. Barca will look to exploit Mourinho’s concerns by
moving for Luiz but if they are priced out of the transfer, have lined up Agger
as an alternative.
Luiz is thought to want to move to La Liga - and is
willing to take a pay cut to make it happen - but Kompany has emerged as a
possible contender for a move to Camp Nou. City would however hold out for a
substantial fee as they would not be keen to lose their captain, potentially
leaving Barca in the same situation as their move for Paris Saint-Germain’s
Thiago Silva. The Brazil defender was Barca’s first choice signing but the deal
could not be completed
