John Barnes believes Liverpool would be better served by
selling Luis Suarez as soon as possible rather than let the transfer saga
rumble on.
Suarez has made no secret of his desire to move away from
Anfield and he is pressing to be allowed to speak to Arsenal after the Gunners
tabled a £40,000,001 offer.
Liverpool have repeatedly stated that the striker is not
for sale, but Barnes is worried that their stance could go against them with time running out to
recruit a replacement.
“We’ve seen in the past when transfers go down to the
last minute that it doesn’t help anybody, especially for a club like Liverpool
who, if they lose Suarez, would have to find a big-name replacement,” Barnes
told TalkSport.
“I’d like it to be done sooner rather than later, because
if it goes down to the last day, and you then have to go and get somebody, it’s
not ideal.”
While Suarez has not formally requested a transfer, the
Uruguay international has made it clear that he wants to move on and Barnes
believes the club should let him go rather than risk having an unhappy player
in the squad.
“As far as Suarez is concerned, if he’s not going to be
happy, then he has to go,” he added.
“We can all say, ‘yes, we think Suarez is going to be a
player like Carlos Tevez, who gives 100 per cent no matter what’ but we don’t
know what his mental state is going to be if he doesn’t get his wish.”

Approach and Toronado). I always say when you step into Group One level
everything is a danger, but they are the top two horses and we will see what
unfolds.”
