Often criticized as a defender who attacks much too
often, David Luiz was once of Chelsea’s best players last season. The
26-year-old dazzled from both his hard tackling, and his brilliant strikes.
Despite the solid play from the
Brazilian, he could be headed to Spain before the transfer window shuts,
to play with Barcelona.
According to Goal, Barcelona are set to table a bid of
around €29 million for the center-back as Barcelona’s defense has been
questioned often lately. With Puyol no longer the defender he was, and Gerard
Pique searching for a replacement, Luiz naturally seems the best bet at the
moment.
As Jose Mourinho takes over at Chelsea, it seems as if
Luiz’s services are no longer needed as he’s placed a recent emphasis on Doria
from Botafogo. Although sometimes rash in the challenge, the current
curly-haired defender/midfielder would bring Barcelona stability in their
already questionable defense.
Carles Puyol and Pique both have brought plenty to the
table for Barcelona; however, the strength in Luiz’s play would bring depth to
their defense and midfield should they see fit. Just as Barca so desire, he
brings the added presence to the attack from a defenders standpoint, one which
John Terry brought Chelsea years ago.
David Luiz may be best fit for La Liga where he can
possibly get away with his overzealous 60 yard passes, or his long-winded runs
forward. Certainly, this is not a knock to La Liga but, Luiz would seem to fit
in the Barcelona system quite well. That being said, Mourinho may be seen as
making the wrong move due to the Brazilian’s recent success; however, that’s
why he’s referred to as “The Special One.”
