TOP 10: GOALKEEPERS IN WORLD FOOTBALL

We have compiled a list of 10 players who are the best on the planet at present, whilst we've also included five stars of the future who are destined for the top.

There is no particular order as it is almost impossible to choose, so feel free to comment on your favourites or even if you feel some deserve their place in this prestigious line-up.

HUGO LLORIS: TOTTENHAM & FRANCE

He is Tottenham's athletic goalkeeper who is now their established first-choice. Lloris has made a very good start to his new career in north London where he has produced some outstanding saves. He signed for a bargain £12m and is captain of the France national team. Lloris' ability to race off his line and read danger is one of his best attributes, along with quick reflexes.

MANUEL NEUER: BAYERN MUNICH & GERMANY

The Bayern Munich and Germany number one is quite possibly the best goalkeeper in the world at present. He has conceded just 13 goals in 29 appearances for the German champions and his outstanding displays in the Champions League have helped his team to the semi-final stage. The 27-year-old still has a long future ahead of him at the top and is sure to win many goalkeeping accolades.

IKER CASILLAS: REAL MADRID & SPAIN

Real Madrid's goalkeeper and record appearance-maker has been regarded as the best goalkeeper of the last five years in world football. He has been included in several Team of the Year's and has become a World and European champion for Spain, captaining them in the progress. There are not enough superlatives to describe him as he is working his way back to full fitness after suffering from a broken hand.

SALVATORE SIRIGU: PARIS SAINT GERMAIN & ITALY

The Italian stopper has been so influential in Paris Saint-Germain's progress since the billionaire's took over and he has helped his side to the top of the Ligue 1 table. He is the second choice 'keeper behind Gianluigi Buffon but is running him close for the number one jersey. He is an excellent goalkeeper who cost just £3m from Palermo and he is set for a very prosperous few years ahead.

PETR CECH: CHELSEA & CZECH REPUBLIC

The Czech Republic stopper is one of the best around. Despite his loss of form, he has now came back with some incredible saves which have saved Chelsea numerous times this campaign. He looks back to his best now and at 6ft 6in, he uses his height to his advantage. His ball distribution is very good and also commanding his area is as good as anyone. Cech has captained the side frequently this season in the absence of John Terry and Frank Lampard.

MARTIN STEKELENBURG: ROMA & NETHERLANDS

The Dutchman is one of the best goalkeepers in the world but due to the poor form his team are showing of late, he doesn't get the accolades he may deserve. Since his move to Roma from Ajax he has gone under the radar but his natural ability is clear to see. At 6ft 5in, his agility is terrific. He was knocking on the door whilst Edwin Van Der Sar was around and since his retirement, Stekelenburg has never looked back. He keeps the Premier League duo of Tim Krul and Michel Vorm on the bench which says a lot too. He is an outstanding goalkeeper who would grace any team in Europe.

JULIO CESAR: QPR & BRAZIL

He is Queens Park Rangers' best signing this season, bar none. Without his performances in goal they would be further behind in the battle to avoid relegation and with him in goal they still have a chance. He won the Champions League with Inter under Jose Mourinho and was regarded as the best around by many pundits and viewers. His loss of form saw him lose his place in the side and also lose his international place too. Now he is back as the Brazil number one and is attracting interest from Europe's elite once more. He is sure to become available if The Hoops go down as we can't have one of our top ten 'keepers playing second tier football.

GIANLUIGI BUFFON: JUVENTUS & ITALY

He still has the record of being world's most expensive goalkeeper, costing Juventus £32m from Parma back in 2001. He is captain of Juventus as well as the Italian national team. His shot-stopping ability is one of the best around as it has been for over a decade and he is vocally a leader as well as physically. He will go down as one of the greatest goalkeepers to have lived and he is still on top form. Buffon's team are on their way to another Serie A title and he led them to the Champions League quarter-final. He is now 35-years-old but there are no signs of him slowing down so expect to see him around for many more years to come.

JOE HART: MANCHESTER CITY & ENGLAND

He is England's number one goalkeeper as well as Manchester City's. He is set to pick up the Premier League Golden Glove for the second successive season and is regarded by many as the best on the planet. He was a £500k acquisition from Shrewsbury Town which is probably their best signing of all considering all the money they have spent in the past few seasons. He has matured into a confident shot-stopper who is regarded as one of the few world class players in the England national team. Hart has a huge career ahead of him and will be England's first-choice for a very long time.

ROMAN WEIDENFELLER: BORUSSIA DORTMUND & GERMANY

This man has won the German Bundesliga and is part of a very successful Dortmund team who still remain in the Champions League at the semi-final stage. His crucial saves this season have helped them to second place in the league too and he is one of the crops who get rave reviews week-in, week-out. He is mentioned in the same sentence as Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze which shows his outstanding ability and this fully deserves his place in the GMF top 10 goalkeepers in the world.
