The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) say they need about
N140 million to prosecute the 2014 FIFA
World Cup qualifier between the Super
Eagles and the Harambee Stars of Kenya in Calabar on March 23.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, the chairman of the NFF
Finance Committee, Dr. Shehu Adamu, said that the money will be used to pay the
bonus of the players, their return tickets, daily camp allowances and other
expenses.
"It is a big challenge for the NFF but we cannot
afford to disappoint now after emerging as African champions at the 2013 Africa
Nations Cup in South Africa. Qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is the project we ‘ve placed as
priority for now.”
"As reigning
African champions, we cannot afford to take chances and that is why we are
giving Keshi all the support he needs to
beat Kenya and remain top of the group which also has Malawi and Namibia,"
he posited.
The former chairman of Kaduna State Football Association
also disclosed that the Glasshouse will give prompt approval to the coach to
open his camp for the match against Kenya as soon as he sends in his programme
for the game billed to hold at the U J
Esuene stadium in Calabar.
On Stephen Keshi's official car, Dr Adamu expressed
gratitude to the Chairman of Globacom, Chief Mike Adenuga, for bailing the
federation out by making available two expensive cars for the use of the head
coach of the Super Eagles. According to the former Commissioner of Sports in
Kaduna State, Chief Adenuga has fulfilled his promise to provide the coach with
an official car by purchasing two cars-
a brand new Range Rover and another 2013
model Camry Saloon car.
He said the NFF through the President, Aminu
Maigari, had made a passionate appeal to
the Globacom boss to help in acquiring an official car for Keshi and he
responded swiftly by providing two cars.
"Chief Mike
Adenuga has always been a father-figure to us at the NFF; and I am glad he made good his promise with
the provision of the two cars. We cannot thank him enough," he stated.
