Davis Cup: Great Britain drawn against USA in World group

Thursday, 19 September 2013

Great Britain have been drawn to play the United States away in the first round of the Davis Cup World Group next year.

In their first game back in the elite group of world tennis since 2008, Leon Smith's team will travel to across the pond in February.

Andy Murray won both his singles and the doubles with Colin Fleming as the British defeated Croatia 4-1 in Umag last weekend.

Davis Cup: Great Britain return to elite World Group with victory in Croatia

Sunday, 15 September 2013

Great Britain returned to the Davis Cup elite World Group for the first time in five years after Andy Murray put on a masterclass against Croatia's Ivan Dodig.

The double Grand Slam champion came through on the clay of the Stadion Stella Maris in Umag with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 success in the first reverse singles rubber.

Victory for Leon Smith's team meant they held an unassailable 3-1 lead against the 2005 champions with a match to spare.

It has been an impressive rise three years after they were one match away from being relegated to the lowest tier of the competition.

US Open: Stanislas Wawrinka beats Andy Murray in straight sets to reach semi-finals

Thursday, 5 September 2013

Andy Murray's defence of his US Open crown came to an abrupt end as Stanislas Wawrinka produced a superlative performance to win their quarter-final in straight sets.

Murray never quite got to grips with the blustery conditions in New York but, in truth, it was Wawrinka who blew him away as he recorded an emphatic 6-4 6-3 6-2 success to reach his first-ever grand slam semi-final.

Having edged a hard-fought first set, the Swiss star pulled away and did not face a single break-point on his way to a place in the last four as Murray cut an increasingly frustrated and abject figure.
