Match Review: Juventus Vs Udinese by Stanley Princewill McDaniels

Monday 15 September 2014

Juventus eased away with a convincing 2-0 victory over Udinese at the Juventus Stadium to underscore their perfect start to the 2014/15 Serie A campaign.

The Bianconeri drew first blood as early as the 8th minute when Stephan Lichtsteiner cut back from the right to thread a cross finding Carlos Tevez who beautifully slotted home for the opener.

Soon after was a smoke of controversy when Patrice Evra was brought down in the box by Panagiotis Kone-  The referee was not interested.

The home side continued to dominate play with Paul Pogba showing his "classical" technique mixing it with power thereby stamping his authority in midfield.

Udinese slowly found their rhythm when Italian Nigerian's Angelo Ogbonna got enough touch to divert Di Natale's headed effort wide.

Di Natale continued to trouble the Juventus back line but in the 29th minute, Martin Caceres made a headed clearance to deny Di Natale an equalizer yet again.

Stephan Lichtsteiner almost got on the score sheet but his shot on the 37th minute went wide after some fancy passes in the opposition's danger zone. A 40th minute Paul Pogba shot was easily saved by Karnezis only because the Frenchman couldn't connect with the ball. But when he did in the 44th minute, the powerful shot proved too central.

Udinese had some joy in the second half but not before the home side attacking from the blast of the whistle. Patrice Evra made an attacking run down the left to find Fernando Llorente but the ball went behind the Sparniard and he couldn't control it.

The game didn't lack some drama to spice things up when on the 66th minute, Udinese's Igor Bubnjic was flagged for offside after netting from close range. It was a tight call indeed for the match officials.

Juventus finally put the game beyond reach in the 75th minute courtesy of a Claudio Marchisio rocket from outside the box. The two former Manchester United players, Evra and Tevez, started the move and the Argentine released Marchisio to finish things off with a beautiful screamer.

There was time for Alvaro Morata to make his much anticipated debut as the Sparniard came on for his fellow country man, Llorente in the 89th minute and immediately squandered a chance saved by Karnezis off a low shot.

This records Massimiliano Allegri's impressive start to the new season as coach of Juventus.
