The Spanish Referees’ Committee (CTA) has reported Real
Madrid stars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos to the Royal Spanish Football
Federation’s Competition Committee for comments made about referee Alberto
Undiano Mallenco, following their 3-4 ‘El Clasico’ loss to Barcelona on Sunday
evening.
According to Spanish news outlet, EFE, the CTA has
submitted the comments made by Ramos and Cristiano to the Competition Committee
to decide whether the duo should be punished for their actions.
In previous instances, defamatory comments agains the
referees have resulted in economic sanctions and not a ban of competitive
matches such as Pep Guardiola being fined €1,500 in 2010 and Angel Di Maria for
the same amount in 2013, for eluding that the referees had a hidden agenda.
However, in 2012, Gerard Pique wasn’t fined for stating
that his sending off was “premeditated” along the same lines as Ramos’ comments
on Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, Cristiano’s comments eluded to a conspiracy,
where the powers that be don’t want Real Madrid to win and want Barcelona in
the title race.
The Committee won’t likely meet until Wednesday morning,
meaning Cristiano and Ramos’ fates won’t be decided until hours before kick-off
at Sevilla.
