The Akure club is going about its recruitment carefully
with little noise as they hope to bounce back from their unimpressive results
in the league last season
A top official of Sunshine Stars has expressed happiness
at the calibre of goalkeepers in the fold of the Akure club ahead of the
2013/14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season which starts next
year across the country.
Sunshine have recruited Sharks' goalkeeper Ikechukwu
Ezenwa and Rangers' Godwin Ayalogu to add to Moses Ocheje and Henry Abiodun
that were with the club during the last campaign.
Ezenwa is a goalkeeper with rich experience having taken
part in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 and in the U23 national team
under Samson Siasia in 2008. He was in the team that grabbed a silver medal at
the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Another new entrant, Ayalogu was in fantastic last season
for Rangers before he got injured while Ocheje and Abiodun are also no novice
to the round leather game.
In a chat with Goal, the top official of Sunshine who
does not want in name in print said that the Akure side would only go about
their recruitment without much fuss on the pages of newspapers as they look
poised to build a strong team from the goalkeepers to the strikers before the
start of the season.
"We are very discreet at our recruitment. We want to
as much as possible get very good players at very affordable rate. The two
goalkeepers we have added to our team are to increase the battle for who will
man the post during our matches.
"Ayalogu is a good goalkeeper from Rangers and
Ezenwa too is trying his best. We also have other fine players that we are not
going to say much about now. It is until the season starts that you are going
to see the best of us," the source told Goal.
