News Update :

Simeone flattered by Inter talk

Tuesday, 31 December 2013

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has admitted to being keen on the opportunity of taking over reigns at Inter Milan at some stage.

The 43-year-old was a player of the Nerazzurri between 1997 and 1999 and won the UEFA Cup during his time with them.

He expressed interest in a return to the San Siro, after rumours surfaced that the new regime at Inter wants him to make the club a European force once again.

"Inter? It would be an honour," Simeone told Il Giornale. "But for now, all that talk is left to the newspapers.

"I see myself at Atletico Madrid for some time yet. Some say I might become the (Alex) Ferguson of the Colchoneros."

He added that he believes they have what it takes to winning the La Liga title, having managed to keep up with usual suspects Barcelona and Real Madrid up to now.

"It would be stupid not to think about that (winning the league)," the former Argentina captain said. "Especially in light of the league position."

He won the Spanish title with Atletico back in 1996 as a player before leaving for Italy where he also played for Lazio before returning to Vicente Calderon Stadium.
