Stephen Keshi has assured that the departed players of
the home-based Super Eagles will be effectively replaced ahead of the upcoming
African Nations Championship (Chan).
While admitting that the likes of Godfrey Oboabona,
Gabriel Reuben and Juwon Oshaniwa with whom he started the home-based squad
will be missed, Keshi said that he was happy with the progress the players have
made in their respective careers.
He further informed that their departure has created a
opportunity for new stars to be discovered from the abundance of talent that
Nigeria is blessed with.
“The only problem we have is that of time; we have little
time to prepare but we will still give it our best shot and ensure that we
replace some of our players that have left us for bigger things abroad,"
Keshi said.
Speaking after the Eagles defeated newly promoted NNL
side Prison FC 4-1 in their first practice match played in Abuja, Keshi stated
that his optimism is drawn from the quality of the players currently in the
Eagles camp.
He added that the team will improve as they play more
test games, and that by then the coaching crew will be able to pick a selection
of capable players that will represent the country at the Chan tourney.
