PSG had a move for Chelsea's Juan Mata turned down at the
end of the transfer window. This week's Le10 magazine explain that PSG were
probably trying their luck and that Roman Abramovich didn't really take the
offer seriously.
There had been rumours about a possible Mata exit ever since
Jose Mourinho took over at the club and the Spaniard's exclusion from some
games in the early season only gave those reports encouragement.
The situation has calmed somewhat since. Jose Mourinho
has stated he's pleased with how Mata has responded to the challenge he's been
given and the player has been brought back in as a major player. If that
continues then there's no reason why either the club or player would be happy
about a parting of the ways.
Mata is settled in London and clearly loves the
city, other than the playing time issue there's no reason why he'd want to
leave.
Nevertheless, PSG are keeping an eye on the situation and
are keen to bring in a big name Spaniard. Despite having their first approach
refused they are prepared to have another go but don't want to upset Chelsea.
Le10 say the plan is to contact Chelsea before the end of the year and ask if
they'd be open to a move in January and if not they'll walk away rather than
trying to force the issue.
He's not a player PSG especially need but one whom they
would like, therefore it's not worth risking a fall out with Chelsea and Roman
Abramovich over.
If the Premier League club will consider a sale then PSG want
to make it known they'll be happy to buy the player, probably paying enough so
that Chelsea make a profit.
