Thiago Silva admits it was difficult rejecting a move to
Barcelona after revealing it has always been a dream of his to represent the
Catalan club.
Silva, touted as one of the best defenders in the world,
has been heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp over the past two seasons,
but has twice snubbed the Spanish giants in favour of staying with Paris Saint
Germain.
Reports claim the salary offered by mega-rich PSG has
been the reason behind his continued commitment to the club, and although he
insists it is not all about the money, Thiago also believes there would be
nothing wrong with staying for financial security.
"It was tough to say no twice to Barcelona,"
the 28-year-old told The Guardian.
"It's no secret that I've adored the club since I
was a kid and that I've always wanted to play for them.
"But life is made up of decisions that sometimes fly
in the face of your dreams.
"I heard people saying I was just thinking of the
money, but they forget we have families to feed. Why would I accept to earn
less money to play for Barcelona? Why are players the ones supposed to sacrifice
themselves?
"Besides, PSG offered me also an opportunity for a
new challenge and the club are trailing the right path."
