Mayor Pedro Segarra tells
the comedian to 'quit whining, do his job and try some yoga' after the heckling
incident in Hartford.
Dave Chapelle is slammed by
Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra following the comedian's walk-off during his show
in the city and then his onstage rant in Chicago to comment on the incident.
The mayor said what Chappelle did was "immature and inappropriate."
"Dave Chappelle should
stick to his job, give the fans what they paid for and not disparage the good
people of Hartford," Segarra stated. He additionally tweeted, "Dave
Chappelle should quit whining, do his job and try some yoga. #HartfordHasIt P.E.S."
Chappelle walked off the
stage on August 29 after being heckled at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford,
Connecticut. He stopped telling jokes when the crowd refused to die down
despite warning. He sat on a stool, smoking and reading a book to fulfill his
time allotment.
When resuming his show,
which was part of the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival presented by
Funny Or Die, in Chicago on Tuesday, September 3, he praised the audience for
behaving "so much better than" the "young, white alcoholics"
in Hartford.
"That crowd was
evil," he said in an expletive-laden rant. "A room....full of
suburban torturers ... just booing and talking all kinds of s**t." He went
on, "I swear to God, f**k that whole city. ... I'll never go back. I won't
even go to Hartford for f**king gas."
The standup comedian didn't
stop there as he added, "I don't want anything bad to happen to the United
States, but if North Korea ever drops a nuclear bomb on this country, I swear
to God I hope it lands in Hartford, Connecticut."
Chappelle also referred to
the infamous racial slurs fellow comedian Michael Richards hurled at
African-American members of his audience at during a Laugh Factory show in
2006. "I wanted to pull a reverse Kramer and call 'em all crackers or
something crazy like that," he said, referring to Richards' character from
NBC's sitcom "Seinfeld".
But he added, "Couldn't
do that. I felt bad when Kramer did that s**t to us."
