Santi Cazorla has been speaking to Marca whilst away with
the Spanish national team, players within the Spanish side seem to be very
accessible to the media and there's no huge distrust like there is in this
country. The continued success no doubt has something to do with it, when the
media haven't got anything to complain about and only praise the team, then the
team are therefore going to be more positive about the press.
Cazorla was speaking about his past and future with the
national side and he wants to be able to play a bigger part and be more
important going forward. He recognises that the players surrounding him are
very strong, but it's not enough for Cazorla just to be involved any more, he
wants to be integral and help the squad win trophies.
The conversation inevitably comes around to Mesut Ozil
and Cazorla is as excited as other Arsenal players have been "I am very
happy. He is a spectacular footballer. Let's enjoy him and that we're lucky
enough to learn at his side."
Marca then try and draw Cazorla into commenting on why
Real Madrid would sell the player, probably looking for the Arsenal player to
have a swipe, but he resists and says he doesn't understand the situation but
is happy that Arsenal have been lucky enough to end up with Ozil.
On whether Ozil can help Arsenal win the league, the
Spaniard says "We will see. He is a very important player and will fit
well with the way we play. Hopefully we can fight with the big teams in the
Premier League."
Cazorla was asked if he saw himself in the shirt of
Atletico Madrid this summer and says that although there was an approach, which
was confirmed by the Spanish club during the window, he was calm about the
situation and turned down the opportunity "No, because there wasn't any of
that. As Cerezo (president of Atletico) said, there was an offer and I was very
calm."
It should be an exciting season ahead for Cazorla with
both Arsenal and Spain and if he wants to be integral for his national team
then he needs to do well in the Premier League, which can only be good for
Arsenal.
