Sources close to Godfrey Oboabona tell KickOffNigeria.com
that the Nigeria defender has agreed a 4-year deal with Turkish club Rizespor
subject to a medical.
Oboabona, 22, is expected to fly out to Turkey after this
week's Nelson Mandela Challenge for that medical.
"The deal has been agreed. All that is left is for
him to do the medical and he will do that right after the friendly match in
South Africa," a representative of the defender told KickOffNigeria.com.
The move was confirmed by Mike Idoko, Executive Director
of the Ondo State Football Agency, the body which oversees Sunshine Stars and
other clubs in the state.
"Yes, Godfrey is going to Rizespor, but there are
just a few details to sort out," Idoko said.
Following the defender's consistent performances with the
Super Eagles, there were reports of offers from various clubs around Europe,
KickOffNigeria.com was informed that the player wanted the right offer "He
wanted a club that was right for him. The right place, the right opportunity
for advancement.
"One where he would get the opportunity to play
regularly, not go there to complete the numbers.
"In the end, it came down to two clubs and he
decided that Rizespor was the one that offered him everything he wanted."
