Loic Remy will miss the start of the new season with a
calf injury, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has confirmed.
The French striker has moved to St James' Park from QPR
on a season-long loan, but will miss out when the Magpies start their Premier
League campaign at Manchester City on 19th August, which you can see live on
Sky Sports 1.
"It's just a strain, but it's an area that is
stopping him from running at the moment," Pardew told the Newcastle
Chronicle. "We need to get some work into him.
"There is no chance of him making Man City. Whether
there is a chance of him playing against West Ham in the next game is something
we will have to suck and see as we go along."
Pardew also hinted that Newcastle are looking to
reinforce their forward line before the end of the current transfer window.
He added: "We look like we need a bit of improvement
at the top of the pitch. We have Remy in and unfortunately he's injured, so
that's still an area we need to improve on.
"I think there is a lot of players still to move in
this window. I think we will be involved in that."
