Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik revealed his delight after
the club announced he had extended his contract with the Azzurri until 2018 on
Friday night.
The former Brescia player has been a star for the
Partenopei since his arrival in 2007 and the extension ensures he will continue
to ply his trade at the Stadio San Paolo for seasons to come.
“I have renewed my contract until 2018 and I am very
happy,” he told Mediaset Premium after the Azzurri’s victory over Benfica.
“Legend? It is not just me, but all of the squad that
represent Napoli.”
The 26-year-old then commented on the possible arrival of
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, who plays with Hamsik on the Slovakian
national team.
“I don’t have a say in the transfer market, but he is
certainly a great player that is worthy to play for Napoli.
“[Gonzalo] Higuain? I think this will be a great season
for him.”
