Liverpool owner John W Henry has insisted the club has no
intention of selling Luis Suarez, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Henry was speaking at a meeting of the Liverpool
Supporters Club in Oslo, ahead of the Reds’ friendly with Valarenga on
Wednesday evening, and also confirmed neither he nor his business partner, Tom
Werner, were considering selling the club.
“I don't know why people ask us if we are selling the
club or the best players, because we are not. We like to buy stuff, not to
sell,” Henry said. It is not the first time the American has commented on the
chances of Liverpool letting Suarez leave - he previously tweeted “What are
they smoking at Arsenal?” after the Gunners offered £1 over £40m for the
Uruguayan.
Suarez has not made the trip to Norway after limping out
of training with a foot injury and remaining in England for further
examination. There was speculation - denied by Liverpool manager Brendan
Rodgers - that Suarez had refused to play in any more pre-season friendlies for
the club, and he was seen driving himself away from Liverpool’s training
ground.
A number of Liverpool first team players have stayed
behind due to injury, however, with Rodgers missing Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel
and Glen Johnson, who have all been carrying knocks from previous pre-season
friendlies.
