The Spain international has been linked with a
sensational move to the Catalan giants and the former Valencia man thinks a
transfer to Camp Nou is a realistic option.
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Santiago Canizares says
Iker Casillas should consider leaving the Santiago Bernabeu side for Barcelona.
The Blancos captain lost his starting berth to Diego
Lopez last season while Jose Mourinho was still at the helm, and is also
seemingly second choice under new coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Consequently, Canizares would not the discount the
possibility of Casillas departing for Camp Nou before the close of the transfer
window.
"I don't see any problems if he were to leave Madrid
for Barcelona," Canizares told Cadena SER. "At Barcelona - and
anywhere else in the world - he would get the recognition he deserves.
"What matters most is your job and if you can't do
it at your current club, you will have to look elsewhere. If I were Casillas, I
would start thinking about leaving Madrid. This situation is not normal.
"The current situation at Madrid is very
uncomfortable for both goalkeepers. I have never thought that having two great
shot-stoppers at one team was a good idea. Casillas is always the centre of
attention at the moment."
Casillas has a contract with Madrid until June 2017.
