Daily Telegraph reporter Jeremy Wilson has told talkSPORT
that he believes Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal may make a final attempt to sign
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. The Gunners have recently failed with a
£40,000,001 bid for the Uruguayan amid confusion over a clause in the player’s
contract.
Arsenal’s latest bid was believed by the player to
trigger a clause that would allow him to move, but Liverpool and the
Professional Footballers’ Association have since confirmed that the clause
merely obligated the Reds to tell Suarez of an official bid.
The failed bid sparked a media frenzy by Suarez, with the striker insisting that manager Brendan Rodgers has backtracked on a promise that he made a year ago, telling the player that if Liverpool fail to finish in a European spot then the striker can leave.

“I think [Arsenal] will try again, but I also think
they’re realizing that they might have to move on and look elsewhere,” Daily
Telegraph reporter Jeremy Wilson told talkSPORT.
“It’s not completely finished, but I do sense a little
bit of resignation from Arsenal in the situation. Having said that, I do feel
they will make one last try and there has been a feeling that around £50m might
be enough.”
Arsenal have failed to strengthen significantly this
summer, with free transfer Yaya Sanogo the only arrival at the Emirates
Stadium. Nevertheless, the Gunners have enjoyed a spectacular preseason this
summer and look much improved from last season.
The impending bid for Suarez comes after the revelation
that the club previously stalled a deal for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain
as they prioritized Suarez, so the pressure is now on Arsene Wenger to land a
major signing after Higuain elected to move to Napoli.
