Arsene Wenger is comparable to Brian Clough
The best way to predict the future is look at the actions
of the past.
In the 1975/76 season, Brian Clough took over as manager
of Nottingham Forest. Before his arrival the club had finished 16th in the
second tier of English football.
In the season when he took over they managed to rise to
8th. Forest were promoted into the England’s first division a year later.
The fans already loved him but couldn’t be prepared for
what happened the next season. Forest became one of three teams that have been
promoted into Division 1 and then won it the following year in 1978. They
placed second behind Liverpool the next season, but won the European Cup.
In 1979/80, although placing 5th in the league, they yet
again triumphed to another European Cup, beating Hamburg in the final in
Madrid. Now who could have thought that a club that have won two of the most
prestigious awards in world football could get relegated under the same
manager?
Clough revolutionised Nottingham Forest. Yes, Clough won
the league title, something no Nottingham Forest fans could have dreamed of.
But, if your club is beginning to under-perform to your expectations, your
manager needs to go. Forest were relegated in 1993, finishing bottom of the
Premiership.
So how does this relate to Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.
Wenger is held in extremely high regard to all football
fans after coming third in his first season and then winning the double in his
second. In 2003/04 he led Arsenal to an unbeaten Premier League season.
In 2004/05, Arsenal won the FA Cup, beating Manchester
United on penalties.
Since then, he has failed to win anything apart from a
place in the Champions League. Arsenal have not finished higher than third
since the 2005.
Is Arsenal's expectation to be a good team in England or
the best? The fans want to win the league, so why hasn’t Wenger gone?

manager?
