Manchester United will feel sour about losing out on
Thiago Alcantara to Bayern Munich but they are continuing their search for a
midfielder unabated. The latest player on David Moyes’ radar is Italian
international Antonio Candreva who plays for the Serie A club Lazio.
Having impressed with his performances last season at
Lazio scoring 6 goals in 34 matches in the league, he was picked for the
Confederations Cup where too he excelled. The 26 year old has now reportedly
been of interest to Manchester United and Napoli. However, Lazio president
Claudio Lotito, made it extremely clear that the player is not on the market.
When asked about the interest from Napoli, he said, “Napoli? They have never
called me, but if they do, I’d say he’s not for sale.”
Lotito is very happy with the things that panned out in
this transfer window and said he is under no pressure to sell their star
midfielder. ”Lazio are the only club who have bought players without selling.”
He added, “We wanted to strengthen the team. I can also say that we have
achieved all the market transfers we had”.
Candreva helped Lazio win the Coppa Italia last season,
beating rivals AS Roma in the Final.
