After it has been reported that Arsenal have/are close to
signing Bernard from Atletico Mineiro in a deal worth a reported £21m, Fox
Sport’s Brazil reporter Lucian Calheiro has claimed that the Brazilian club
could insist on keeping the player on loan until the end of the Brazilian
season.
The end of the season in Brazil would correspond to the
January transfer window in Europe.
With Arsenal meeting with Roma to discuss the transfer of
Gervinho it would seem strange if they let him go and then paid over £20m for a
player they could not use until January. While it is understandable that
Atletico Mineiro would want this sort of arrangement, I would be very surprised
if Arsenal agreed.
Tweets after the cut...
The player arriving in January would only be getting
acclimatised to the league when it would be over and as many Arsenal players
have said – it is a good start we need to the season. Doing that after letting
three left-sided players go would be
tricky to say the least.
As with this transfer to date there is much speculation
and nothing is confirmed. If reports are to be believed, the Brazilian will
travel to London tomorrow for a medical on Friday so we don’t have long to wait
now to find out if it is true.
