Anelka vows not to repeat 'quenelle' celebration

Monday, 30 December 2013

The Baggies confirm that they have spoken to their forward about his controversial gesture after netting against West Ham but will continue to use him while under investigation

Brom say that Nicolas Anelka has agreed not to repeat the controversial 'quenelle' goal celebration as he awaits the results of a Football Association investigation.

The French striker marked his second goal in Saturday's 3-3 Premier League draw at West Ham with a gesture that has been linked to anti-establishment and allegedly anti-semitic connotations in his homeland.

Anelka insisted that he had not set out to offend anyone of Jewish faith, stating that the action was dedicated to his comedian friend, Dieudonne M'bala M'bala, but he could face a ban of up to five games from the FA.

Nicolas Anelka hits back at French politicians over 'quenelle' criticism

Sunday, 29 December 2013

West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka has denied his 'quenelle" gesture is racist and hit out at French politicians who have criticised him for using it.

Anelka used the 'quenelle' as part of his celebration after scoring twice in West Brom's 3-3 draw with West Ham on Saturday.

The 'quenelle' salute was made famous by French comedian Dieudonne - a friend of Anelka's - and is linked by some to anti-Semitism.

The Belgian, on loan for the second season in a row after spending the 2011-12 campaign at West Brom, made the move to Everton on transfer deadline day.

Hull City held firm to take all three points at home to West Ham, while Jordon Mutch hit a later screamer to give Cardiff victory at Fulham.

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher out for six weeks with a shoulder injury

Friday, 27 September 2013

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.

The Scotland international dislocated his shoulder during last Saturday's 3-0 Premier League defeat at West Brom, and there were concerns that he could be sidelined for several months.

However, interim head coach Kevin Ball revealed on Friday afternoon that the latest prognosis is much more positive.

Van Persie fit to face West Brom, says Moyes

The Scot says the striker has shrugged off injury and should play some part in Saturday's game at Old Trafford but midfielder Tom Cleverley is still a doubt with a knee problem.

Manchester United manager David Moyes says striker Robin van Persie has recovered from injury and is fit enough to face West Brom on Saturday.

The Netherlands international missed Sunday’s 4-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester City and the midweek win over Liverpool with a groin injury.

However, the Scot has revealed Van Persie is fit again and could feature against Steve Clarke’s men at Old Trafford on Saturday.

West Brom 0-1 Southampton: Late Lambert penalty caps stunning week for striker

Saturday, 17 August 2013

The Saints hitman followed a goal on his international debut with a late winner on the opening day of the season to give his side a perfect start to the new season at the Hawthorns

The 31-year old netted the winner for England against Scotland in his international debut in midweek, and was on hand to claim a win for his club three days later by coolly dispatching his spot-kick after Youssouf Mulumbu had fouled Luke Shaw in the area.

West Brom handed a debut to Nicolas Anelka, appearing for the sixth Premier League club of his career, but Zoltan Gera and George Thorne were ruled out through injury.
