After their 6-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester City, the England international is pleased with the spirit that he and his team-mates showed against the reigning champions.

Kyle Walker feels that Tottenham proved a point by responding to their humbling at Manchester City with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas came under pressure after his side slumped to an embarrassing 6-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium in their last league game, capping off a month in which Spurs failed to register a Premier League goal.

The forward, who appeared set to leave during the summer, scored twice at Old Trafford to help David Moyes' me get off to a perfect start in this season's Champions League.

Wayne Rooney was understandably delighted after scoring his 200th Manchester United goal in Tuesday night's Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The England international opened the scoring at Old Trafford before adding a second after the break, with Robin van Persie and Antonio Valencia also on target for the Red Devils in an exciting 4-2 win.

The Blues have seen two bids for the unsettled forward rejected by the Premier League champions, with manager David Moyes insisting the England international is not for sale.

Wayne Rooney joined his England team-mates for training on Monday ahead of this week's Wembley friendly with Scotland.

The striker has played only 45 minutes of pre-season football because of hamstring and shoulder injuries, but Manchester United gave him permission to report for duty at St George's Park.

And Rooney was out on the training pitch at 10am on Monday - half an hour before the scheduled start of the session - as preparations began in earnest for the first England-Scotland game in almost 14 years.


Giggs unfazed by lack of signings




Ryan Giggs accepts it might be a hectic couple of weeks in the transfer market, but claimed he would be happy if Manchester United emerged from the summer window without making any changes to their squad.

United claimed their first silverware of the David Moyes era when they defeated Wigan 2-0 in the Community Shield.

The victory has eased some of the tension among Red Devils supporters, who had started to become agitated by a combination of poor pre-season form and the lack of fresh blood since Moyes' appointment was announced in May.

David Moyes insists there is no rift between him and Wayne Rooney, and that Manchester United have no plans to sell the England international.

Chelsea have submitted two unsuccessful bids for Rooney, who missed Sunday's FA Community Shield win over Wigan with a shoulder injury.

Moyes was in a combative mood at the post-match press conference at Wembley, where he denied speculation that he had fallen out with Rooney.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich believes the club would be committing footballing "suicide" if they were to let Wayne Rooney join Chelsea.

The Red Devils rejected a second bid from Chelsea for the striker on Sunday, understood to be worth £25 million plus add-ons to take the deal to just under £30m.
