Robben still 'mad' at Pep over penalty call, claims Ribery

Thursday, 24 October 2013

The Dutchman refused to take a spot kick for Bayern in their 5-0 win over Viktoria Plzen, which left the head coach confused and a Roten legend fuming.

Arjen Robben is still seething from not being permitted by Pep Guardiola to take a penalty at the weekend, Franck Ribery has claimed on the back of Bayern Munich's 5-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen.

The Roten coach stopped the Dutch winger from taking a spot kick in favour of Thomas Muller in Saturday's 4-1 Mainz triumph, but on Wednesday was shouting from the sidelines for the 29-year-old to take a penalty.

Bayern Munich 5 Viktoria Plzen 0

Bayern Munich maintained their 100 per cent record in UEFA Champions League Group D by thrashing Viktoria Plzen 5-0 at the Allianz Arena.

Franck Ribery scored twice to take his tally to three goals in his last two Champions League games as the European champions sent out another message of intent.

Pep Guardiola's side dominated from start to finish, with David Alaba, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Gotze also on target as Czech champions Plzen were totally outclassed.

Pellegrini warns against Champions League complacency

Monday, 16 September 2013

Manchester City take on Viktoria Plzen in their first group game match of the new European campaign, and the Chilean insists the Czech champions must be respected.

Manuel Pellegrini has warmed Manchester City against complacency as they gear up for their Champions League opener against Viktoria Plzen.

The 2011-12 Premier League winners have crashed out in the group stages of Europe's premier club competition in the previous two seasons, and the Chilean has urged his side to respect their Czech opponents or risk a similar fate.

Vincent Kompany may return to action for Manchester City

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has returned to the squad for their UEFA Champions League opener against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday.

Kompany has missed City's last three matches with a groin injury but he has travelled with the team to the Czech Republic and his return would be a major boost for manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The City skipper hobbled off during their season-opening 4-0 victory at home to Newcastle and they have stuttered somewhat without him, a 3-2 loss at Cardiff and a 0-0 draw at Stoke sandwiching a 2-0 home win over Hull City.
