Guardiola hails Bayern´s ´massive´ year

Sunday, 22 December 2013

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola hailed the Bundesliga giants' past 12 months of dominance after their FIFA Club World Cup win.

Guardiola clinched his second piece of silverware in charge of the club, as they beat surprise packets Raja Casablanca 2-0 to be crowned world champions.

The trophy comes after Bayern beat Chelsea on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup earlier in the year, although Guardiola was keen to point out the club's extensive success after they completed the treble last season under Jupp Heynckes.

"Five trophies in a year is massive success for FC Bayern," the Spaniard said.

Toure has called for anyone else who saw the abuse from the home fans to come forward after Ivory Coast team-mate Seydou Doumbia says he never made any comments over than what appeared in the club website.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has remained defiant in his complaint over his allegation of being racially abused by the CSKA Moscow fans by claiming “I am not deaf”.

Toure has called for anyone else to have seen the abuse to come forward, while Uefa have confirmed that they are investigating why referee Ovidiu Hategan failed to follow the protocol for dealing with such incidents, as well as charging the Russian club with “racist behaviour of their fans”.

World Cup: UEFA back moving World Cup in Qatar in 2022 to winter

Friday, 20 September 2013

FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce has confirmed European countries have given their overall backing to moving the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to the winter.

Boyce revealed the 54 UEFA associations, who have been meeting in Croatia, want FIFA to consult much further with the game's major stakeholders before making their decision about an exact date for the controversial tournament.

The world governing body meets in Zurich early next month when a decision is expected to be made in principle to moving the competition away from the summer months, when the heat in Qatar can reach more than 50 degrees centigrade.

"There were certain reservations regarding the World Cup in Qatar but everyone agreed that it would be impossible to play in the severe heat of Qatar in the summer," Boyce said.
