US Open: Roger Federer suffers shock straight-sets loss Tommy Robredo

Tuesday, 3 September 2013

Roger Federer failed to halt his recent slump as he suffered a straight-sets defeat against Tommy Robredo in the fourth round of the US Open.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion, who was recently dumped out in the second round of Wimbledon before losing to Daniel Brands and Federico Delbonis in ATP Tour events, was beaten 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-4 by the 19th-seeded Spaniard.

Federer never looked comfortable after a long rain delay prompted organisers to move the match from Arthur Ashe Stadium to Louis Armstrong, a court Federer had not played a match on for seven years.

Robredo, who had never beaten Federer in 10 previous meetings, was a break ahead twice in the opening set and, although Federer pushed him to a tie-break, it was dominated by the Spaniard.
