Fit-again Podolski thrilled with return

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has spoken of his elation at returning to the pitch from a hamstring injury.

The German international missed four months of football after tearing his hamstring against Fenerbahce in August, but came off the bench to score in their London derby success over West Ham on Boxing Day.

"When you are out for a long time it is not easy, but I'm happy to be back," Podolski told the Daily Mail.

"I've never had muscle problems before so it was a new experience and not easy.

The Welshman had struggled since a career-threatening injury in 2010 but his recent goalscoring run has his team-mate pondering the lasting personal effects on the player.

Jack Wilshere has backed Aaron Ramsey to keep improving after a stunning start to the season with Arsenal, adding that the Welshman has only just recovering from his double leg break in 2010.

The 22-year-old has notched eight goals in his last eight games, which is double his career record for an entire season, after moving into a more prominent role this term.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes club-record signing Mesut Ozil still has room for improvement as he adapts to life at the Emirates Stadium.

The Germany international had a hand in all three of the Gunners' goals against Stoke City on Sunday, directly assisting both Per Mertesacker and Bacary Sagna with pin-point set-piece deliveries.

Goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud have put Arsene Wenger's men in a commanding position in the Champions League play-off ahead of next week's second leg.

Arsenal ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Fenerbahce in Istanbul on Wednesday night to put one foot in the group stages of the Champions League.

Second-half goals from Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and a penalty from Olivier Giroud made sure of the win, with the Gunners now firmly in the driving seat ahead of next week's second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
