Brazil taught Australia a lesson, says Osieck

Sunday, 8 September 2013

The Socceroos equalled their worst defeat to the Selecao, losing 6-0, and the German coach concedes his side have a long way to go before reaching Luiz Felipe Scolari's men's level

Australia coach Holger Osieck said his team received a harsh but valuable lesson from Brazil.

The Socceroos were pummelled by Luiz Felipe Scolari's men 6-0 in a friendly at the Estadion Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia on Saturday.

"We have come to Brazil to get an idea how football on this level is, and now we know and now it's up to us to analyse and to work on all the elements we have to improve on," Osieck said following the huge defeat.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's men put the Socceroos to the sword with a commanding display on Saturday night

Brazil continued their impressive recent form with a 6-0 thrashing of Australia.

Two goals from Jo and a strike from Neymar put the Selecao 3-0 in front at half-time and second-half efforts from Ramires, Alexandre Pato and Luiz Gustavo added gloss to a resounding victory.

After dominating the opening exchanges, it took Brazil just eight minutes to open the scoring.

Neymar wouldn't play at Barca, says Scolari

Wednesday, 6 March 2013

The Santos star has been linked with a switch to Camp Nou on numerous occasions over the last 24 months, but Felipao believes the time to leave Brazil has temporarily passed

Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari is of the opinion that Neymar would not get a game at Barcelona, and believes that he is better off remaining at Santos for now.

The 21-year-old talent has been linked with the Catalunya club, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich heavily over the past few months, though he remains rooted in South America.

Felipao, who entered his second stint as Selecao head coach late last year, thinks that it would be tough to join the Blaugrana now and hopes for the sake of the national team that Neymar stays in his homeland until after World Cup 2014.

"Neymar should have gone to Barca two years ago, but now it is better that he stays at Santos," declared Scolari to reporters today.

"How would he adapt? Would he be by himself? Would he start games? Would he play in this star-studded Barcelona team?

"For the World Cup of 2014 and for Brazil, it is preferable that he does not go right now."

Neymar was named alongside the likes of Kaka, Dante, Dani Alves and Lucas Moura is Scolari’s squad announcement on Tuesday ahead of friendly games against Italy and Russia in mid-March.
