Roma not reliant on Totti, Garcia insists

Roma manager Rudi Garcia says the team are fully equipped to cope with the absence of captain Francesco Totti when they travel to Udinese.

The 37-year-old has rolled back the years with a series of impressive performances for a side who have won all eight of their Serie A fixtures this season.

But Totti will be unavailable for the encounter with Francesco Guidolin's side, after he picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-0 triumph over Napoli last Friday.

Roma have confirmed that Francesco Totti has signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain at Stadio Olimpico until 2016.

The 36-year-old's current deal had been due to expire at the end of the current season but after lengthy discussions with the capital club the Giallorossi legend revealed his delight at extending his stay with his hometown club on Friday.

Goals from Alessandro Florenzi, Francesco Totti and Kevin Strootman, from the penalty spot, moved Roma joint top of Italy's Serie A thanks to a 3-1 win over Parma on Monday.

With three wins in as many games and level on goal difference with Napoli, Roma sit just behind Rafael Benitez's leaders but two points ahead of Inter, Fiorentina and champions Juventus following draws for all three at the weekend.

Roma travelled north feeling confident having lost just once to Parma in their last 14 league encounters, and with the carrot of moving ahead of more authentic title contenders should they win.
