Shinji Kagawa trains with Manchester United ahead of Bayer Leverkusen game

Monday, 16 September 2013

Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa was in training on Monday morning ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener against Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford.

The Japan midfielder has not figured since the Community Shield win over Wigan last month and missed Saturday's win over Crystal Palace with a mild flu virus.

However, it does appear Kagawa is in contention to face the German side on Tuesday night in what will be David Moyes' first group game in the competition.

Absent from training on Monday morning were Danny Welbeck (knee) and Phil Jones (ankle), while 18-year-old Belgian Adnan Januzaj was not present either, Moyes having opted not to select the 18-year-old in his Champions League squad.

Giggs unfazed by lack of signings

Monday, 12 August 2013

Ryan Giggs accepts it might be a hectic couple of weeks in the transfer market, but claimed he would be happy if Manchester United emerged from the summer window without making any changes to their squad.

United claimed their first silverware of the David Moyes era when they defeated Wigan 2-0 in the Community Shield.

The victory has eased some of the tension among Red Devils supporters, who had started to become agitated by a combination of poor pre-season form and the lack of fresh blood since Moyes' appointment was announced in May.

MATCH REPORT: Wigan 0-2 Manchester United: Van Persie double seals first trophy for Moyes

Sunday, 11 August 2013

Sir Alex Ferguson's successor got the new era off to a winning start as the Red Devils overcame Championship opposition at Wembley

Van Persie opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a brilliant header into the bottom corner before sealing the victory in the second half with a deflected strike.

United were far from convincing against the FA Cup holders - now playing in the Championship - but Moyes will be relieved to have successfully won the trophy after leading his side out at Wembley for the first time.

Sir Alex Ferguson either won or shared the Community Shield nine times and it would have been a welcome relief for Moyes to focus on matters on the pitch following an unsettling summer of transfer speculation.
