Krol to coach Tunisia in play-offs

Thursday, 19 September 2013

Former Netherlands captain Ruud Krol has agreed on a two-month contract to coach Tunisia in the African zone World Cup play-offs, the Tunisian football federation said on its website (www.ftf.org.tn) on Wednesday

Tunisia have been drawn to meet Cameroon over two legs in October and November with the winner securing a place at next year's finals in Brazil.

Krol replaces Nabil Maaloul, who resigned after Tunisia lost their final group match 2-0 at home to the tiny Cape Verde Islands on September 7.

Eto’o will be invited for knockouts

A day after Cameroon were drawn against Tunisia in the 2014 World Cup qualifying knockout phase, the team’s assistant coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpilé insisted that Samuel Eto’o remains the Indomitable Lions captain, amid speculations the Chelsea new signing has retired from international football.

Eto’o was reported to have announced his retirement to team mates moments after their game against Libya last week, but many in the central African nation consider it a game of bluff to put pressure on the country’s football officials.

“Eto’o is still the captain of the Indomitable Lions,” Mpilé said on Tuesday.
